The Val d'Isere / Espace Killy piste

L'espace Killy is one of the largest ski areas in the world, comprising of 90 lifts & 300km of piste.

The village sits at 1850m and the highest local peak is Le Grande Motte which sits at 3800m. The cable car to the top of the Motte runs to 3450m. A lift pass for the whole of l'Espace Killy costs €140 As of 2006 The whole area is fitted with an electronic "hands free" skipass system

Off piste in Val d'Isere.

There are large areas of off piste, and several ski schools that offer guides. TopSki is the specialist off piste ski school.

Snow Parks

There are 2 snow parks. One is situated xxx on the Val d'Isere side of l'Espace Killy, and the other is accessed by the Lavachet ski lift and is on the Tignes le Lac side of the mountain.

The Mountain Echo - Val d'Isere

The Mountain Echo is the weekly Val d'Isere English newsletter. It is produced in resort by Mark and Freddie Stanford, is published every Friday, and is available at Powdermonkey Internet Cafe and in most bars.

There is a wide selection of restaurants in Val d'Isere situated all around the town. Local specialities include fondue, raclette and saucisson.

The Monday market in Val d'Isere

Every Monday during the winter season, Val d'Isere hosts a market that takes over the whole of the "vieux village". Best buys on the market include the saucisson and cheeses.

The free bus service in Val d'Isere

Val d'Isere has an excellent free bus service that covers the entire town. Buses run from 8am to 2am, and run every 5 minutes during peak times and every half hour between 8pm and 2am.

There is a cinema in the centre of town opposite the bus station that shows all the latest releases. many films can be seen in "VO" (version originale) ie English. Films are shown in the evening and also during the day if the weather is particularly bad.

Televised sport in Val d'Isere

Major sports events are shown in quite a few bars in val d'Isere. However, THE sports bar is the Pacific Bar situated beneath the precision ski shop near the tourist information centre.

The Pacific Bar has SEVEN large plasma screens & shows every premiership game, all the rugby, most of the cricket, a little bit of Danish handball, and if there really is nothing happening live, then you can guarantee a re-run of the 1966 world cup.

They also serve Guinness, Magners & have a pie warmer full of Pukka pies for all the live games !! Nice one Guffy.

Ice driving in Val d'Isere

There is an ice driving circuit situated at the edge of town, on the main road heading towards La Daille. You can race go-karts, quad bikes and even Audi sports.

There are 5 supermarkets in Val d'Isere. One at the top of town heading towards La Fornet, two in the centre of town, near the bus station, the Spar petrol station has a minimart, and there is a supermarket in the La Daille complex on the mountain side of the road. map.
